GROUPS: exploring and understanding the individual-in-context

With Keith Tudor TSTA(P)

Saturday 26th June 2010, 9.45—5

Human life may be said to be the expression of and the working through of our needs both to be individuals and self-organising, and to be part of a greater whole and to belong. This workshop will explore the transactional and relational expression and impact of two related trends - one towards increased autonomy, and one towards homonomy (or the urge to belonging and connectedness), both in the face of heteronomy or difference - specifically in the context of groups. This workshop will draw on the experience and practice of participants and link this to philosophy and various theories of and about groups and working with groups

This interactive workshop is for any advanced practitioner who works with groups in any way: facilitators, educators, therapists, community activists, team leaders, chairs of boards, virtual groups, party organisers, group therapists, and other types of groupworkers

Keith has worked for 30 years in the helping professions in a number of settings. He is a qualified social worker, a qualified and registered psychotherapist (in the UK) and, for ten years, was also a registered group psychotherapist (through the AHPP). He has a long held personal and professional interest in how groups work, and has experience in facilitating psychotherapy, supervision, training, and community groups. He is the author of Group Counselling (Sage, 1999) and, with Stephen Paul, is currently preparing a second edition of this book. He has also written widely about persona-centred and transactional analysis ways of working. He was a founding Director of Temenos, Sheffield where he worked for seventeen years before emigrating last year to Aotearoa – New Zealand where he is Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader in the Department of Psychotherapy at Auckland University of Technology.

As well as this event he is providing a supervision day on Monday 28th at TA Works.
