EGO STATES: Different Models for Different Approaches

With Graeme Summers

Sunday 3rd October 2010, 9.45—4.45

This workshop is designed for advanced TA learners wishing to consolidate and expand their understanding of different ego state models within TA.

We will look at the Seven Traditions of TA (Tudor & Hobbes 2002/7) and use this framework to consider how ego states are conceptualized and used within each approach as TA has developed over time. The different approaches help identify different ways of thinking and intervening. We aim to explore common confusions and contradictions between models in order to differentiate, clarify and promote informed awareness of similarities and differences. We will also examine the varied assumptions about human development and health that are often used in conjunction these ego state models within their respective traditions.

Graeme Summers is a psychology graduate and has post graduate diplomas in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy and Executive Coaching. He was a TA psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor for many years and is now an executive coach. He is former Director of Training for the Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute, Edinburgh where he incorporated the ‘Seven Approaches’ (Tudor and Hobbes, 2002) model into the advanced TA training syllabus. He is co-author (with Keith Tudor) of ‘Co-creative Transactional Analysis’ in the TAJ, and is the creator and distributor of the TAJdisk.
