frameworks for your future: foundation in TA
This programme of 120 hours begins each January on a Friday 1.30 – 7.30 plus Saturday 9-5 once a month on 10 occasions (where possible avoiding school holidays — check news for dates & prices) or fortnightly on Mondays 1.30–8.30. Led by Rosemary Napper TSTA O+E with visiting clinical PTSTA’s (see certification to explain abbreviations).
This programme investigates key TA concepts in depth, providing both original and contemporary theory, and examples of application. The syllabus includes structural ago states, functional modes; repeating patterns — rackets, games, life, scripts, accounting and discounting; groups; and contracting.
The intended outcome of this programme is for participants to recognise their own Adult ego state and to have a clear grasp of TA concepts. This level is intended to be significant personal and professional development, and can lead to ongoing specialist TA training on advanced programmes at TAworks and elsewhere in the world.
Which of these plus points of this programme of learning fit your needs and wants?
professional
- you will develop your fluency in using TA concepts to think about situations
- you will gain insight into how TA can be used in different roles – in the workplace; in learning; in families; by counsellors and psychotherapists; in leadership; in coaching; in specific professions – as a way of thinking about effectiveness in these roles
- if successfully completed you will be able to choose which formal field of TA application you wish to progress to learning (organisational; educational; psychotherapy; counselling) for qualification – or for ongoing professional development; or to decide this learning is complete in itself
potential
- you will gain a measure of your own potential professionally and personally through this programme, including your capacity for emotional literacy
practical
- conveniently programmed as ten events approximately every four weeks — on Friday afternoon from 1.30 to 7.30, on Saturday from 9 to 5
- dates for 2009 are: January 23/24; February 20/21; March 20/21; April 24/25; May 23/24; June 26/27; July24/25; Sept 25/26; October 23/24; ending November 20/21

further features
the benefits of this programme are in extending your professional and personal competence — and one of the key features of the training is the quality of the learning experience in supporting such learning.
philosophy into practice
- The trainers will model the TA tenets such as OKness, autonomy and capacity to think, both in their design and delivery and in their response to learners’ curiosity and challenge
- Learners are encouraged to begin to think using the ‘maps’ that TA supplies so accessibly — and to use the peer learning group to support and clarify their thinking
providers
The key trainer Rosemary Napper is present throughout the monthly training to provide continuity and encourage connections between the modules plus the making of meaning by the learners. In addition there will be input from other trainers from different fields of application of TA — and opportunities for you to explore with them what further training might entail. David Tidsall leads on the fast track programme with some support from Rosemary Napper and others.
programme
By the end of this programme you will be readily able to think about yourself and situations using TA concepts as a framework for considering and clarifying with hindsight — and to recognise how you could also use TA with foresight. Two or three key concepts from TA are explored in depth at each training session, illustrated with how these are applied in different fields of practice.
There are also further options for extending your learning:
- On Sundays prior to Mondays following the Fri/Sats there are often optional workshops on applications of TA provided by a range of TA trainers and supervisors
- To ensure optimal learning the group size is limited to an absolute maximum of 12
- Participants need to already have the TA 101. This course is available internationally, in Oxford at the workshop and at Oxford University on Monday mornings during the autumn; also bespoke in-house for organisations or pre-foundation by tutorial and written assignments
